Abstract

GKN Aerospace is committed to the achievement of sustainable aviation at the earliest practical opportunity and continues focused research and development in order to meet this goal. As part of this, one of the technologies being considered is a novel cryogenic Hydrogen Electric Propulsion (H2EP) configuration, which has been under detailed study for a number of years, and is now in the technology demonstration phase. This presentation will describe the progress in system architecture development and demonstration achieved to date via the ATI funded H2GEAR, HyFive and H2FlyGHT research programmes. The presentation will also detail the commercial aerospace market context of the work to date, and the potential impact that achievement of the technology could make as a pathway towards zero emission (at the point of use) flight.
