acs.analchem.8b04279 - Linear Scanning ATR-FTIR for Chemical Mapping and High-Throughput Studies of iPs

· 0

A fully automated linear scanning attenuated total reflection (ATR) accessory is presented for Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The approach is based on the accurate displacement of a multibounce ATR crystal relative to a stationary infrared beam. To ensure accurate positioning and to provide a second sample characterization mode, a custom-built microscope was integrated into the system and the computerized work flow. Custom software includes automated control and measurement routines with a straightforward user interface for selecting parameters and monitoring experimental progress. This cost-effective modular system can be implemented on any research-grade spectrometer with a standard sample compartment for new bioanalytical chemistry studies. The system was validated and optimized for use with microfluidic flow cells containing growing Pseudomonas sp. bacterial biofilms. The complementarity among the scan positioning accuracy, measurement spatial resolution, and the microchannel dimensions paves the way for parallel biological assays with real-time control over environmental parameters and minimal manual labor. By rotating the channel orientation relative to the beam path, the system could also be used for acquisition of linear biochemical maps and stitched microscope images along the channel length.

IJEIS.54138 - Screen Printed-Carbon Electrode Modifikasi Bismut untuk Analisis Kadmium dengan

IJEIS (Indonesian Journal of Electronics and Instrumentation Systems) · 2020

Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal that has high toxicity. Cadmium levels need to be considered in an environment that can accumulate and can poison all biotic components. In this research measurements of cadmium metal using bismuth-modified carbon screen electrode  used cyclic voltammetry method. The parameters considered are the resolution of the comparative electrodes and the voltage produced from variations in cadmium concentration. The test results prove the stability of three sensors each at a voltage of 3.3 - 4.6 mV, 9.3-11.4 mV, and 27.4 - 29.8 mV. While the results of the cyclic voltammetry characterization test vary depending on the concentration of cadmium. Concentrations of 0.5-100 ng / mL produce an oxidation peak at a current of 2.03 x 10-5 - 5.00 x 10-5 A. These results show a directly proportional relationship between the cadmium concentration and the resulting current.

Solar-powered bioelectrochemical system for efficient cadmium remediation and recovery of reusable solids.

RSC advances · 2026

Cadmium (Cd) is a persistent industrial pollutant that poses severe environmental risks, necessitating remediation technologies that balance efficiency with energy sustainability. This study investigates a solar-powered bioelectrochemical system (PV-BES) as a low-energy strategy for Cd recovery, addressing limitations associated with conventional energy-intensive processes. In batch experiments, the PV-BES achieved 62.3% removal of dissolved Cd 2+ , outperforming the 53.8% efficiency of a self-biased microbial fuel cell. Electrochemical measurements combined with solid-phase characterization indicate that the solar-driven bias is consistent with localized interfacial alkalization, which favors the formation of crystalline Cd-O solids rather than continuous metallic Cd plating under near-neutral bulk pH conditions. These results suggest that coupling photovoltaics with bioanodes provides a synergistic, reagent-free pathway for cadmium immobilization and recovery. Overall, this work supports the potential of PV-assisted BES as a sustainable, low-energy approach for heavy metal remediation under mild aqueous conditions.
